On Sunday afternoon, our group celebrated its 40th anniversary. Yvonne and Donald Watson, founding members of the group back in 1984, were presented with their ‘Celebrating 40yrs of Volunteering’ certificates. They also received a beautiful gift of a stained glass depiction of Rio, one of our old ponies whom we lost in January and a favourite of both. Claire Lambie, one of our volunteers, created Rio. Thank you Kenny Richardson and Fife Ukulele Orchestra for keeping us well entertained. One of their group was presented with flowers and a Shiresmill Thank You rosette. Huge thank you to Alison Mckilligan and Mia Graham for organising the event, arranging the bunting, indoor decorations and food. We are indebted to Yvonne and Donald for starting up the group 40 years ago with limited resources but lots of enthusiasm and making Shiresmill what it is today.
Our History
We are a member group of Riding for the Disabled Association Incorporating Carriage Driving (RDA). Founded in 1984 under the name of Sandydub Group, we were originally based at Shieldbank Riding & Vaulting Club before moving to a field at Rynd where we operated for 6 years before moving to our purpose-built centre at Shiresmill in 1996 as Dunfermline Group RDA. Our centre was officially opened by HRH Princess Royal who is President of RDA. In December 2013, we changed our name to Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre to better reflect our location and our services.
